I have a 1978 Pearson 35 (Hull #421) with the original W30 Westerbeke. The problem is that I cannot get the the sacrificial zinc out of the heat exchanger. I can remove the fitting and I can feel the zinc with my fingertip but I have no way to get a hold of it to remove it.
Anyone have any suggestions?
John

Hey John
Question? Does the old zinc prohibit you from inserting a new one in the screw-in adapter?
If it doesn't, just leave it in and put another one in. It will gradually be eaten up.
If you just have to get it out, then unscrew the round back plate (with large rubber washer) on the end of the head exchanger and pull it out. Might need the help of a couple of mirrors and flashlights. Turn your valve off so the water won't flood the bilge.

I have not tried inserting a new zinc but my sense was that the old one was in the way and would prevent a new one from being installed. I will try and if it won't go in, I will have to try to get the end off the heat exchanger.
Thanks, John

Sorry for the delay. Haven't checked the site for awhile. The heat exchanger zinc is tough to get a good grip on. I had mine on too tight last time. Finally realized it was easier to take the heat exchanger out ( five hose clamps) so I could get good leverage. Once it was out I was able to get the zinc out in about ten minutes. Also needed to change some hose clamps.
