Hello all....my first post. I recently purchased a 1976 P35, hull#336, She has a Westerbeke W30 attached to a Paragon SAO transmission. The previous owner stated that the transmission was slipping however I was not able to confirm this as I purchased the boat while on the hard. The transmission may just need an adjustment but I'm considering the worst case and will have to replace it. I am not going to repower as the engine apears to be in good condition. I'm looking for opinions on whether I should replace the transmission with a Hirth / ZF or a Borg Warner Velvet Drive 71C. The Velvet drive would be a 1:1 ratio as the Paragon is but I know I would be looking at near 2:1 with the Hirth or ZF and a corresponding prop change. The Velvet Drive seems to be a recommended swap in the Pearson 365 or 40. I haven't checked to see if the Velvet Drive will dimensionaly fit in the P35. Thanks in advance......wonderfull site.

I had slipping problem too. I was fortunate to find local old timer who could rebuild, had the parts (almost impossible to get) and could remove install. You will have problems I lucked out. MAybe you can find parts. I bought a spare used w30 engine and think it has the paragon. Been sitting on a skid Let me know how it goes and I'll help if I can
