Westerbeke 30 problem. Transmission will not stay in reverse unless physically held there. Yard says they looked at it and believe problem is at transmission or linkage at transmission although I don't know how closely they looked. How can I tell if it's a trans problem or is it the linkage? Should I try detaching linkage at trans and try shifting by hand to see if it will stay in gear? Can this be done? Thankful for any help or suggestions.

From the research I have done on transmissions for the P35, if your Pearson is equiped with the Paragon SAO transmission that is a normal condition. There is no detent to hold the transmission in reverse like there is with a Hurth or ZF transmission. I have yet to experience that issue first hand as my Pearson will not splash until this coming spring.
