Has anyone installed a feather prop? My P35 has a big three bladed prop. I love it when we have to motor somewhere but when we are sailing, I feel like we are dragging a bucket. The aperture is probably too small for a folding prop so a feathering wheel is the way to go.
Have you made the switch? What did you select and are you happy with the performance?

Checked into a feathering prop but it didn't make sense. First you'd have to notch the rudder to get clearance for the prop's hub. The full keel of the 35 makes a for a lot of 'dirty' water aft so you aren't gaining much in the way of reduced drag. With the prop in an aperture a 3 blade is partially shielded by the deadwood and a 2 blade is totally shielded if locked vertical. Spend your money on light air sails, it will be money much more profitably spent.

repowered with a Beta diesel and repropped with a Variprop. It is the shortest hub feathering prop and thus suitable for the 35. The rudder does have to be cut out which I did. I went from a 2 blade 12X 8 to a 3 Blade 14 by 16 (if I remember correctly). I was afraid that my sailing performance would be adversely affected if I went to fixed prop of that dimension. I'm happy but poorer for the choice I made.

Larry,
Just read your post on your Variprop. I was wondering if you experience any problem when the wheel is hardover either to port or starboard. I understand that a fairly small amount of the rudder has to come off because of the zinc nub, but I was wondering if your 14 inch Variprop hits the rudder when hardover. I'll also message you this same question. Thanks
