Eventually I'm going to have to replace the mast due to corrosion. Though I don't have much experience sailing the boat, yet, it doesn't appear to be a speed demon in light air. thereI was a Catalina 36, I think, docked next to me and noticed it's stick was considerably taller than mine.
Wonder if anyone has put in a taller stick. Would help increasing sail area and light air performance. Downside would be possibly over-powering the boat and seriously affecting ultimate stability.too quickly. Since she's a center boarder, doesn't have all that lead really deep counteracting the heeling moment of stick and sails.
Just wonder if anyone has done or investigated adding a taller stick. With modern technology, a taller stick doesn't need to be heavier, in fact could probably have signifcantly less weight at the masthead.

most changes to mast, boom mainsheet, have been done to get more room in the $thingypit$, i.e., moving mainsheet to cabin top or raising boom to get more headroom. I haven't heard of anyone getting a taller mast for the reasons you state. I did get a new mast 2 years ago and had it made 1 foot taller. The reason was to then raise my boom that 1 foot to get more headroom for a bimini that can sit higher. Mainsail is the same except 1 foot higher off the cabin top and foot of headsail is something less than a foot higher off the deck. I'm sure someone will say the changes will affect CE and sailing performance but I can't tell the difference and I'm sure it's not much.

My 2 cents The P35 had the longest run of any Pearson boat and underwent a number of improvements. However two things remained the same That was everything above the deck and everything below the waterline remained the same. I feel that if Shaw thought a taller mast would improve the 35 one would have been installed , especially in the later years of manufacture. However if there is one out there with a taller mast, more than 5 feet. I would like to see how it would perform against a standard rig. Take this as a "BEER CAN CHALLENGE" Roscoe
