I am replacing the heat exchanger and bracket on my Universal 5424. Somewhere I heard or read that I should isolate the heat exchanger body from the bracket and clamps (hose clamps secure the heat exchanger body to the bracket) with strips of bicycle tire. Also, one should install a ground wire between the engine and the heat exchager itself.
Can anyone confirm or clarify this. It seems pretty counterproductive to isolate the heat exchanger with rubber strips, but then ground it???
Thanks :?:

Could it be that the suggestion to mount in rubber was to keep the dissimiliar metals apart to avoid that type of electolysis.? There is some reference to measring voltage from the coolant to the engine at the site below for an Atomic 4 www3.bc.sympatico.ca/Atomic_4_Eng_Service/PdM_Program.htm I did note that on my 5424 which was mounted with hose clamps but without any visible rubber isolation or a ground wire has some what appears to be electolysis but not on the heat exchanger or the clamps but on the castiron bell hosing itself where the bracket attached to the bell housing the bracket looks OK but the Cast Iron bell housing looks like it has electolysis damage
