anyone out there with a Yanmar in their boat. My prospective boat has one installed but it's weird. They used the stock A4 engine bed but moved the engine forward about 10" into the cabin. Looks like it was a problem aligning the shaft as the Yanmar mounts don't allow the engine to sit very low.
Anyone with this engine have the engine installed in the original location and if so, how did you make it fit.

I have seen several on the owners modifications page under engine.I also would like to know why that was done. I used a Beta Marine and had to fabricate special mounts however it sets in the same general location as the Westerbeke although ti is 25% smaller..Could you send Harris some photos to post? My installation is listed check it out under Roscoes projects. Roscoe

Mahalo for pointing out your installation on your projects sight. Missed that you had installed a Beta. Thought you'd rebuilt your factory installed Westerbeke. Fabricating my own mounts will probably be the only way to go if I'm to get the engine back where it belongs. There is no way to use the stock Yanmar mounts and move the engine aft. Unfortunately, my metal working skills aren't quite up to yours. May be a way before I get around to doing it.
Unfortunately, the boat is in the SF Bay area and I'm in Kona. Pictures will have to wait till I get back there. Also till I figure out how to get my computer to recognize my new Kodak P880 camera. Right now, what digitals I have are locked up inside the camera just screaming to get out.
I notice that you have a fixed goose neck with a SS bracket to attach to the mast. Is that something that you built or was that stock on the latter boats??

I rebuilt the Westerbeke and was going to reinstall it However I found the Beta was 25% lighter and since I had the Genset installed I felt the reduction in weight was needed. Had I used the stock Beta mounts my engine would have been in the galley. And the shaft would have been a foot or so longer. I think the gooseneck is standard on the 79 models. It was on the boat when I got it and I saw no reason to change. You will need to install the Kodak photo manageing program for your camera, it is fast ,and works well. Roscoe
