Do P35's centerboards bang around at anchor?

I fell in love with the first Pearson 35 I saw two years ago. I now find myself in the position to purchase one for coastal cruising up to nine months per year. I've had a lot of boats, but none have had a centerboard. Do boards bang around in their trunks at anchor if there's a little water movement? I'm not the world's best sleeper, and I would find it difficult to block out a constant banging sound. If they do, is there a way to fix it perhaps by making it thicker or some other method? Thanks. I know this is a real wuss question.

I just bought # 237 a month ago. I've noticed some noise with the board down board while drifting and getting hit by wakes, but while on the mooring with the board up the only sounds I've heard is the breeze in the rigging and the watter lapping at the hull which is music to my ears.

I have a P35 78 model and yes I have noticed the centerboard banging a lot but only when it's down. I keep it up most of the time and particularly when I come into our marina which is only about 5-6 foot on a good day. I've never noticed it making noise when it's up and I sleep fine on it. I'm very interested in the P-35. I've located one for a good price. My main concern is how well does it sail to weather? I realize that she has a shallow draft, which is what drew me in but I want to be able to point. Any ideas or concerns? Are there techniques to improve windward tracking. Please any and all input would help in making a timely decision.

I'm the owner of Hull 351 (1976). I did a full overall to my centerboard last fall, un-installed and found why mine was making some noise. There was a big gap between the pin size and the ring size on the centerboard (probably related to regular usage) and I replaced the holding ring for a smaller one closer to the pin size. Noise is completely gone and board is operating well. Lot's of fun with the epoxy glue and fiberglass.

What years of the P 35 have the centerboard, with the centerboard it seems as if you have the best of shallow draft and sailing to weather, pointing and overall seaworthiness.

The P35 was mfg. from 68 to 82 and range in price from a few thousand for a sound fixer upper to over $100,000.00 for a completely restored boat.There is a lot of info as well as boats for sell on the links page of this site.

I recently purchased a 1973 P35, July,2005. This is my first real sailboat, and I'm learning a lot about sailing and maintaining a large boat.
I've slept on the boat several nights and never had a problem with a banging centerboard. However, when the board is either part way or fully extended, it does make continuous banging noises as the boat rocks in the waves. When the boat is on the hard, you can see that the centerboard is just hanging free, with a lot of space on either side for swaying motion. Once the board is fully up, the boat is very quiet, except for sounds of gulls and occational creaks and groans from who knows where - not annoying, very relaxing.

Sorry I'm late to this party. But we've had the same problem. When the yard inspected our center board line they muffed up the re assembly. So that the thingypit center board line would end before the center board was all the up. This allowed the center board to bang as the boat rolled. The solution was simple. Lower the center board to release the tension on the drum. Then make 2 to 4 extra lays on the thingypit line drum.. Now when I raise the center board I hear a thump as it hits the top of the trunk. Which is the only noise it makes now.

The site did an auto correction. It renamed the helm area of the boat the "thingypit" So I guess this must mean the "thingy" crows at dawn. I think I've given you enough information to decipher my first reply.
