Has anyone repowered with the Beta 25 or 30 and if so how did it work out? Does the 25 have enough reserve power for head seas? Joe Demers is certain the 25 is just fine but I already cruise at 22 HP based on the the power curve for my W30 at 2200 RPM so I'm thinking the 30 would be a better match. Also the fuel consumtiom looks lower on the 30 at an equal HP setting.

I had my P35 re-powered by Joe Demers three or four years ago with a 25 HP Beta. It runs great, lots of power. Joe does excellent work and knows his engines.

I've decided to go with the beta 25 due to engine compartment size restrictions. I'd like to have room to adjust packing gland or things like that. I'll let you know what I find out over the next two months. Based upon performance calculations a beta 25 with a 15 x 8 three blade prop should work just fine.

Well I did the engine install. Beta was backed up on the delivery times for new engines, so that part took about seven weeks.
Install was pretty straight forward. Replace the entire raw water intake and strainer. Replace the whole exhaust system (upgraded to 2 inch hose). New prop 14x9, new prop shaft, new dripless packing gland, and flexible coupler.
I'm glad I chose the Beta 25, It provides enough room to work on things. Power wise, I still reach hull speed, with power to spare, and finally, fuel consumption dropped from 1 gal gas per hr to .66 gal diesel per hour - that's nice!
Regarding putting in a beta 30, I doubt you'll have room to work in things.
I'll post later additional items I've encountered.
