???I took the drums off my winches the other day and for the life of me I can't see how to break them down for cleaning. There is no clip or screws anywhere which newer Lewmar winches seem to have. I got information from Lewmar website which is not very helpful with my older model winches. Anybody have these winches..I know its got to be something simple I'm missing, right

Mike This months issue of SAILING has a great artical on wench maintance by Adam Cart. If you can't find an issue in your area try their website. www.sailingonline.com [ JULY 2004] The best point made in the artical was only disassemble ONE at a time so you will have a pattern to go by should you need it. good luck!! I have received information from ]Rigging Hydraulics which may benefit others with older Lewmar winches. These circa 1975 winches have to be removed from the deck as they are not serviceable from the top as are the newer winches. After removing it from the winch deck, carefully turn it upside down. There is a circlip and tab washer on the bottom of the spindle assembly that when removed, will allow breakdown of the winch. I have pictures if anyone needs them. mswindle2@comcast.net
