have # 72 (1969 p35).
CB stuck fast all the way up. Not barnacles (can flop it side to side in the pocket). Cable seems recent and looking good at top pully. It is seemingly stuck at sheave box (slack up top but no budge what so ever in CB with gravity OR pulling from below).
I figured I would just grind it/ chop it out and replace the dam thing. Anyone know what is inside box? ie: will bathing it in lube and working it free be a possibility? Either way would not mind knowing where to find replacement.
Main question: Where can I get my hands on a replacement?
Thanks so much, Simon

I worked on mine and replaced the CB cable when boat was out. Not a difficult job. Now the metal assembly for the sheave is leaking and corroding which DOES look like a major job! Does anyone have a schematic of what the thing looks like? It's imbedded in a mound of FG so I may have to cut it out. Out she comes again.

Simon I'm thinking we have same corrosion problem My CB works fine BUT of the sheave housing leaks and water is rust colored. If the nipple portion breaks due to corrosion= BIG PROBLEM!
HAve you cut your assembly and sheave out yet?

Anyone got a source for the sheave box and bronze pipe for the C/B cable run??? I've got a manini leak at the coupling. Afraid to try and tighten the coupling for fear of making it worse. Got to be a problem with these old boats and a replacement will be in demand. Has anyone found an off the shelf source???

The tubing is red brass. I was able to find a hardware store that carried it after some searching. As I recall, several years ago some one on the old PYOA web site removed the sheave box and found someone to make one out of bronze. He was willing to make more for $400. If some one can get on the old forum they may be able to search for it. I can't log on to it.

I got sheave assembly about 6 years ago, because of leaking connection box to trunk and broken bronze union. It was fiberglassed over many times by previous owners you could hardly see it . It was pitted on outside, looked good inside, screw to the trunk were gone. I sand blasted it and fiberglassed it it over with bunch of layers epoxy and very fine cloth to avoid air pockets. It looked very good after that. Fixed mating surfaces, installed it, and is good as new. Used stainless steel bushings and changed cable pipes to 1/2"stainless. About 3 years ago I addressed leak at centerboard pin assembly you can check it out at project section . Finally bilges are dry when is not raining. 1969 Pearson 35 yawl CAPER

Does anyone have a schematic for the centerboard assembly or have a recommendation on where to find one? I have a leak in the housing that is flowing into my bilge. I am planning to grind it down and reglass but I am not sure I will have enough room to access it with the board attached. If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it!

I have a 71' Pearson, 35ft, centerboard. At the end of last season the centerboard housing started leaking at the rear, starboard-side through a small crack. The leak seemed minor at first but after a week on the dock there was a very full bilge. We jammed 5200 in there to hold us over before it was hauled. Now we are trying to figure out what it could be.
We are going to hoist her up and drop the board to inspect but not sure what we'll find. It's obviously wear and tear but do you have any idea where we should start? Cable? Joint? housing crack? We are in Port Washington NY now. If all else fails do you know anyone around there we could call on?

Anyone come up with a supplier of new sheave boxes for the center board and the tubing. Would any of you other owners be willing to go in and have someone cast/machine the hardware. Mine is leaking at the joint between the tubing and box. Afraid to try and tighten the compression fitting for fear of it busting and flooding the boat. Would have a lot more confidence if there was a source for the parts.

Nobody I know that does off the shelf, but based on my conversation w Bristol bronze, he's willing to cast anything you send him in silicon bronze. He's not cheap, but he does seem to be a genuinely good guy.

I for many years leaded motorcycle gas tanks to stop leaks. I could fill 1/8 holes that had been drilled to pull dents. One tank had more then 50 holes and none ever leaked. Because of the low head used its safe on copper brass bronze and works on metal. A sheave would be easy to lead at the point your having this problem. It wont add much strength but will make it water tight. Use a plumbers lead free solder if avoiding lead.

Not saying this is your problem but are you sure it's the cable being cut??? Had a cable problem with another boat caused by electrolysis. Cable would cable would get eaten away and break after about a year. Switched to Monel cable but that only got me an extra season and cost a fortune. A Dyneema cable would've solved the problem but not available at that time. Just bit the bullet and hauled the boat every year for a cable change.
