Would there be a difference in height, sail dimensions, or footprint at deck attachment point? I have an opportunity to obtain a mast from a 1975 model that I was thinking of using on a 1971 model.

The mast head on my '69 is very heavy and the mast only 39' and a few inches long from the deck. Officially the mast height is 40' so there may be a slight difference. I'd go with a later mast if it didn't have the SS mast head fitting. These boats don't need the added weight that high.
I've been thinking about going with a taller mast, something in the 43' range for better light air performance. Anyone changed the mast out for a taller stick. Figure with the top weight of the SS mast head, a taller, newer stick with aluminum mast head wouldn't have anymore weight aloft.
