I have 2 6v batteries in series totaling 235 AH . They are in starboard thingyp{it locker in the normal location. I need to add 2 more for total bank size of 470AH. Would placing them with the 2 already there be too much weight? If not, where to put them?

On my'71 P35 hull 191 I have four 6v batteries on the port side. There is a small leaning to port. My starboard locker has a hot water heater. I store as much heavy equipment on the starboard side to compensate. I replaced my alcohol stove with a two burner propane cook top and put two of the 6v batteries in that spot. The other two batteries are forward in the port locker up against the bulkhead. If you can put them in the port locker that would balance it out. Be mindful of the distance the wires have to run.
In May we returned from a 7 week trip around Florida and the Bahamas. We could spend several days at anchor (with the refrigerator running) without having to charge the batteries. Check your shore power charger to make sure it can charge the batteries when you stay at a marina overnight. I had a 5/5 amp charger and it would not recharge the batteries. I upgraded to a 30 amp and it worked great.

1969 boat. Have 4 6v golf cart batteries under the stbd. settee. Two are oriented athwartship in the open area just forward chart/settee bulkhead. Other two are forward of these next to the FRP water tank and oriented fore and aft. Weight is really low and close to the fore and aft and athwartship centerline so no trim issues. The engine battery is mounted on stbd. side of engine room in a rack screwed into the bulkhead and laminated to the hull.

We have two Group 31 batteries forward in both prot and stbd thingyp{it lockers. The water heater that was originally installed in the stbd locker is now underneath the thingypit aft of the rudder post. That moves the CG aft a bit, but then the anchor windlass and all the chain moved it back forward ( and then probably a bit more). I believe she hobby horses slightly more, but nothing unexpected with such a short waterline.
Cheers,

After looking at every possibility I can think of, my best bet for placement of 2 more batteries seems to be behind the rudder post. I'm not really worried about the weight there as much as concern about splitting up a single bank in terms of physical location. Is it a complete no-no to have 4- 6 volt batteries connected in series- parallel split up by a distance of approx 7 feet? That is 2 batteries in one location and 2 batteries about 7 feet away? I know the cables connecting them need to be heavy. Is this a non-starter?
