With winter coming I am wondering what projects are being planned for the Pearson 35. Last year in preparation for a Bahamas trip I installed a windlass and painted the decks. I am considering changing the port lights on mine (1971 hull 191). This can be an expensive project. I was thinking of just changing the four forward small ports to start. Has anybody had any experience? What are the details of removal replacement with opening ports? Any suggestions on what to do with the large cabin ports?

Replaced all the ports in my boat. Glassed in the cabin sides where the large fixed ports were and cut in new ports. Used Vetus opening ports. Cut in 3 PM25 ports per side where the fixed ports used to be. Replaced the forward ports with PM24. If I did it again would use a shorter port like the PM21 or 22. There is a bit of arc in the cabin side forward and you can't bend the ports to fit the curvature. Shorter ports would take care of that. Email me and I can send photos, roverhiatyahoodotcom.

jmcleodfl - Did you replace your ports this winter? And, what product did you choose for repainting your decks?

I replaced the 4 small ports with stainless steel opening ports. I used Interlux off white for the smooth part of the decks and Kiwigrip for the nonskid. I used the white Kiwigrip and had Home Depot tint the paint to the color I wanted.
