#1. I am looking for a suggestion on where to locate a new dedicated starting battery. I have a 1981 P-35 with the 3-cyl 24HP Universal 5424. The starter is on the starboard side. Currently I have two (Group 31?) wet cells located in battery boxes in the forward section of the starboard lazarette with a standard "OFF-1-BOTH-2" selector switch. Things are pretty congested in the engine compartment and I wondered if anybody has come up with a clever way to retrofit a third battery dedicated to starting the engine (my wife loves to run those fans!!).
#2. Also, I am always on the lookout for a recommendation on a retrofit bow roller that would look good and handle either the 35# CQR or 22# Delta anchor. I would like it to be sturdy enough to fly an asymmetrical from it. I'm thinking about the Windline URM-1, but that's a pretty stout roller and I'm not sure if it would look "clunky" on a P-35?? Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Whoops!!! My Existing batteries and starter are all located on the PORT side, not starboard side as I stated above.

If you just need a grp 24 or maybe even a 27 as a starting battery I think I've seen P35's with them installed in the white fbglass box just below where your electric fuel pump is located. (My 1981 is setup like that. Check under Engine Views on this site

Hi - the link for the wiring diagram doesn't work. Is there anyway you could post it again? We just acquired a Pearson 35 and are quite perplexed with the battery system! Thanks.

My starting battery is next to the engine on the starboard side. It fits on a fiberglass platform just forward of the bulkhead seperating the lazerett from the engine compartment. I was unable to get to the Pearson 35 web site.

Made a pedestal for the start battery on the stbd side of the engine compartment. Used a Group 27 Gel battery though a Group 24 would've worked fine to start the Yanmar 3GM30f engine. Went with gel cell battery so I didn't have to worry about keeping the electrolyte level up like in a lead/acid battery. The Stbd side has some issues with accessibility as the center board cable is in the way. When I rebuilt the galley, made the cabinet face and counter top removable so I could get at the battery to get it out. A 20 year old gorilla might be able to muscle it out without removing the counter top but didn't want to lock myself into having rely on finding one. The lighter Group 24 battery would also make it easier. If I had to do it over again would move the start battery to the Port side and relocate the pressure pump to the stbd.
House batteries are under the Stbd saloon settee berth. My boat is a '69 with integral fiberglass tanks under the settee with enough room to fit 4 6v golf cart batteries wired in series/parallel for 440 amp/hours at 12 volts. The aft GC batteries are mounted athwartship with forward ones fore and aft next to the water tank.

Pearson35.com is coming back. If there is something you need in particular, drop an email to the webmaster at pearson35.com. If I have it, I will send it to you. Cheers, Dave
